This chapter of the 2005 World Drug Report attempts to estimate the financial scale of the illicit drugs market. The chapter highlights the inherent complexities of attempting to assess the value of the market due to its illicit status, which makes calculating production, prices, quantities exported, imported and consumed difficult to accurately measure. Overall the report estimates that the global market can be estimated at around US$322 billion.
